Rooted in the timeless wisdom of Islamic mysticism, this course offers a deep dive into the renowned collection of aphorisms and teachings by the revered spiritual master, Ibn Ataillah al-Iskandari. Throughout history, the Hikam, or "The Book of Wisdom," has served as a guiding light for seekers of truth and wisdom. Its profound insights and mystical reflections provide invaluable guidance for navigating the complexities of life and attaining spiritual fulfillment.

  Who Can Take this Course?

  • Anyone who wants to understand and comprehend the basic knowledge needed to make the most of Ramadan.

  • There are no prerequisites. The text is fully English. Come with an open mind.

  • Open to everyone of any age range. Just be able to keep up.

  Student Expectations

  • Attend class live every week as much as possible. Though recordings will be available after, the course is built on engaging in discussion. Recordings will only be sharable with enrolled students.

  • Course load is not heavy. But, be aware of the discussions and topics in the book. 

 

  Learning Outcomes

  • Uncover the deeper meanings behind the aphorisms of the Hikam and their relevance to contemporary life.

  • Reflect on their own spiritual journey and cultivate a deeper understanding of themselves and their relationship with the Divine.

  • Learn practical tools and techniques for integrating the teachings of Ibn Ataillah into their daily lives.

  • Engage in contemplative practices, including meditation, dhikr (remembrance of God), and self-reflection, to deepen their spiritual connection and inner peace.

Meet Your Instructor

Imam Nihal Khan is the founder of Maktab Academy and an Instructor at Fawakih Institute. Having worked as an Imam and chaplain, he received an 'alimiyya degree from Nadwatul 'Ulama in Lucknow, India, a MA in Islamic Studies from the Hartford Seminary, studied at the Harvard Divinity School, and holds a BA in Psychology from Montclair State University. In 2024, Nihal will begin his PhD in Islamic Studies at UCLA. You can read more about him at his personal website.
